Owner/Client: Sandia National Laboratories, U.S. Department of Energy
Campus environments should be places that foster collaboration, seed creative thinking, and exhibit a strong sense of identity and brand. Similar to community planning assignments, campus planning includes physical plans and 3D renderings to exhibit what is possible; as well as goals, policies, and actions to lead to implementation.
Strategic campus planning and visioning services were provided to the U.S. Department of Energy to guide the development and reuse of the main science and technology park at Sandia National Laboratories’ Albuquerque location. Planners, designers, and security specialists facilitated the visioning process with key stakeholders at the lab to create an innovative campus for use well into the future and to set strategies, actions, and investments that will allow Sandia National Laboratories to continue to be a leader in the world research and development marketplace.
The main design goal included transforming the site to create more of a “campus” environment, while providing places where people can congregate for various activities. The team provided guidance for the potential reuse of key infill sites within the campus, including a new campus center, the Eubank Entry Gateway, the historic Brick District, and new shipping and receiving facility.
